Toronto's Pearson International Airport (YYZ) is a critical hub in Canada's airline system. When there are delays at Toronto, flights throughout Canada and elsewhere may be affected.
There are several websites which can help you.
There are several private businesses that provide flight statistics, flight tracking and information for many airlines around the world.
The website has become more helpful. From the home page, you can search for the specific flight you want if you know its number. If not, you can look at "All Arrivals" or "All Departures".
The "All Arrivals" and "All Departures" screens each list all the flights scheduled for the next 24 hours (approximately). The times are shown using the 24-hour clock, so 2 p.m. shows up as 14:00, for example. Toronto is in the Eastern Time Zone, which is 5 hours behind Greenwich Mean Time. It is the same time zone as New York City.
By clicking on any flight, you can see the details. If the flight has been delayed, there will usually be a revised time given in the details.
The GTAA website home page also includes a link for the Toronto weather.
Because Toronto is a hub for many Canadian flights, the Toronto delays and cancellations of earlier in the day may be felt elsewhere in Canada, the USA and worldwide as time goes on.
In addition to the GTAA website, the airlines have their own separate ones, upon which they typically list their own arrivals and departure information.
The Toronto Pearson International Airport website directs passengers to check with the airline in the event of a delayed or cancelled flight.
It is a good idea to give the airline your phone number when you book your flight. They may try to contact you if they know your flight will be delayed or cancelled.
The worst situation is when you get to the airport and learn then that your flight has been delayed or cancelled. If you don't live near the airport, you may decide to book a hotel room to wait out the delay. The airlines occasionally will put you up, but don't count on it. Check the airline's policy on their website and ask at the airport.
Inside the airport there is information about nearby hotels, including those which offer shuttle bus service to and from the terminal. Be sure to check with the airline before you leave the terminal, and ask for a boarding pass for a later flight so that this taken care of.
No matter how good the weather is where you are, a delay in Toronto may change your plans to fly in Canada, so always check with the airline before you head out for the airport.
